Sc 7P lab HW check next class

I will be doing a HW check for all Science 7P students next class.  At that time you should have completed the averages for all categories of reflex-testing activities (sight, touch, sound, and sight/touch).  Remember:

sum of drops (in cm)
_______________     =  average reaction time (in cm)
          # of trials

For example, if my results were 10cm, 22cm, 12cm, 13cm, and 7cm, then:

10 + 22 + 12 + 13 + 7 = 64

64 / 5 (number of times I dropped the metre stick) = 12.8

Therefore, my average is 12.8cm.  (Please complete this process for each category.)

Senior Band plays at "Christmas at City Hall"

Hi Senior Band!  I booked us in for a performance at "Christmas at City Hall."  We will perform from 12:40-1pm on Monday, December 15th.  Our repertoire will be (in order):

- Themes from the Nutcracker Suite

We will be responsible for our own instruments and music (INCLUDING percussion equipment).  I will be bring a van to help transport big items such as timpani, etc.  Make sure to be organized with your instrument and folder on that day, as we will be on a tight schedule over the lunch hour and won't have extra time to wait before going on stage.

This will be a lot of fun. :o)  Can't wait!

Choir trip to Saskatoon - update

Hi choir girls!  Our performance in Saskatoon is coming up in only 5 days now.  We will be taking a bus to Saskatoon, which will leave from the school at 5pm.  A letter will be sent home for your parents shortly.

Penitential Choir rehearsal date change (with a cameo appearance by the online theory program)

The date for the next Penitential Choir rehearsal is changed from tomorrow (Tuesday) to Thursday at 12pm due to tomorrow's noon dismissal. See you then!

Also, our online theory program administrator has asked me to inform all of the students who use the program that they should NOT be using the blog feature. He has to spend a lot of time moderating comments and monitoring student usage, so please refrain from using the feature. There is no need to use it for the purposes of our classes anyway. Thanks!

Sc 7P quiz date change (again)

Hi 7P!  A singing practice for Friday's mass has been called for tomorrow in p. 6, which conflicts with our Science class.  Also, it looks like the mass itself may conflict with the next class as well, so we will talk to discuss another date for the quiz if we are unable to write it on Friday.  Be prepared just in case.

Please comment once you've read this.  Thanks!

Dirt pudding recipe

A big THANK YOU to everybody who supplied food and drinks for our 7C class potluck today!  There was such a variety of items to choose from, and more than enough food for everyone.  :o)

Due to popular demand, here is the recipe for dirt pudding.  I doubled the recipe to fill the big flower pot.  Enjoy!

******************************************
Dirt Pudding

Cream together and set aside:
1/4 C. margarine
8 oz. cream cheese
1 cup powdered sugar

Mix:
3 1/2 cups milk
2 (6 oz.) pkgs. French vanilla pudding
12 oz. Cool Whip

Beat milk and pudding 2 minutes with mixer. Fold in Cool Whip. Combine with cream cheese mixture. Crush 20 oz. pkgs. of Oreo cookie in blender or food processor, a few at a time until the consistency of dirt.

Use a clean flower pot to serve. Place 1/4 of cookie mixture in pot, then 1/3 of pudding mixture. Keep layering this until you end with "dirt" on top. Refrigerate. Put a few silk flowers in center, add some gummy worms "crawling" out of the pot! Serve with a trowel.

Important choir dates

November 30 - Trustees Convention gig in Saskatoon (O Canada, What Child Shall Come, The Storm is Passing Over)

December 4 - Possible gig with the Watsonaire's (same songs, possibly Jamaican Noel if it's ready in time - will have to try these pieces without the people who will be missing for drama or other commitments to see if they will work)

December 15 - Singing at Pineview @ 11am - will walk over from the school and sing for about 10 minutes

December 17 - Rivier concert

Science 7P HW check - Checkpoint p. 45

Science 7P HW check - Monday, Nov. 17th

Checkpoint p. 45 - #1-7

Students who were missing yesterday will need to catch up questions #1-4 as well.  If you have questions, leave me a comment or see me at school.  Please make an attempt to answer all questions thoroughly.

Study tips for 7C and 7P:

- Re-read pages 27-45
- Write definitions of key words in your notes (key words are often bolded in the text)
- Provide examples of key concepts (i.e. concept: structural adaptations; example: a giraffe has a long neck to help it to reach leaves high in trees for food)
- Have a friend or parent test you by asking you questions from the material contained in your textbook or study notes
- Review material from your peers' presentations - if you can't remember, ask them!
- Re-read your study notes, summarize the text..... review, review, review!
- Remember the activities we did outside (slithering, locomotion, pulse rate, etc.) and what we learned by doing these activities (how does a snake use its muscles to move?  What effect does exercise have on your pulse rate?, etc.)
- Be thorough in your studying.  Make sure you have full and complete answers, definitions, etc. (one or two-word answers will not earn you full marks on an exam, so please don't study this way)
- Set a time to study, and reward yourself for a job well done.  Take occasional breaks for snacks, exercise, or other activities to keep your mind fresh before returning to your task.
- Try to anticipate what types of questions might be asked on the exam, and create practice exam questions for yourself to answer.

7C Potluck - Thursday, Nov. 13th

This is just a reminder for my 7C homeroom class that we will be having our class potluck this Thursday to celebrate students with Sept/Oct/Nov birthdays.  We have a lot of people bringing desserts, so if you are planning on bringing something but are undecided as to what you will bring, consider providing a main course or a salad.

See you tomorrow!
