Beaner update

Aww, so cute! Check out the newest update from my sister and her husband. Avery has a new funny face that she likes to entertain her people with, and the girls got their first pigtails over the weekend so Emily modelled them for us here on the blog. Enjoy!

It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday....

It's exactly one month until Christmas! A few updates coming your way for this Friday:

- As mentioned in class yesterday, today we will be swapping our Level 4 theory class for rehearsal in Period 6. Meet in the auditorium and we'll work through "Coffee Arabian Dances" from "Themes from the Nutcracker" as we haven't looked at it for a while.
- 7(2) theory will meet in the library in Period 4. Girls, bring your instruments so we can work on your trio for the Christmas concert.
- 9(3) will be in the library for theory in Period 5.
- If you don't have all of your practice minutes in for your November chart, you have this weekend to practice for credit. Remember, you need to practice for the equivalent of 60 minutes per week to receive full credit. Practice charts are due by next Friday, Dec. 1st.
- Choir/Jazz Choir - Trade show forms are due today. Please get started on your baking this weekend so that we have enough product to sell at our trade show on the 3rd! Bring in your baking, raffle prizes, chili, etc. early next week and we will be all ready to set up on Friday after school. Thanks for your support and kind attention to our deadlines - it's impossible to organize unless everybody pitches in in a timely fashion! Thanks ladies!
Have a great Friday!

Food for thought...

The IP 10 class has been busy working on their resumes. We go to great lengths to put our best foot forward on a resume, but we should really be asking ourselves if we're putting our best foot forward on Facebook....

IP 10 sample planning guide for Rivier iMovie

IP 10 Rivier Promotional iMovie Project Planning Guide

Topic ideas:

1. Residents

2. Religious/Spiritual Life

3. Music Department

4. SLC Activities/school spirit

Background audio ideas:

1. Don Ross guitar instrumental – Upbeat? Slow?

2. Piano instrumental

3. Band music? Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra?

Key photos to include/photos to take:

1. Group photos of bands/orchestra groups/choirs

2. Choir singing at Sacred Heart

3. Telemiracle audition photos

4. Candid shots of bands outside in front yard with instruments

5. Choir at Variety Night

6. Orchestra 30 at Christmas concert

Quotations that might fit with my topic to enhance the presentation:

1. “Life without music would be a mistake.” – Friedrich Nietzche

2. “Music fills the infinite between two souls.” – Rabindranath Tagore

3. “After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.” – Aldous Huxley

4. “Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and on which it is impossible to remain silent.” – Victor Hugo

Flow of ideas/blueprint:

1. Scene/Idea 1: Start with music quote and audio playing, slow fade from white transition to start

2. Scene/Idea 2: Bands – Levels 1-4, theory program, performance opportunities (use title slides for information, photos for viewer interest)

3. Scene/Idea 3: Orchestra 10-20-30 – Pull-out program, can learn violin, viola, cello, bass, take course for credit (only high school program in SK)

4. Scene/Idea 4: Choir/Jazz Choir – performance opportunities, pictures from church, Telemiracle, Christmas caroling, Variety Night, etc.

5. Scene/Idea 5: “Having fun” – candids from all groups

6. Scene/Idea 6: End with music quote to wrap up presentation

Other brainstorm ideas:

Fade to black at end, intersperse quotations throughout, leave text on screen for 6-7 seconds? – Time it, have others read it, etc. Experiment with fonts/title screen backgrounds? Other iMovie effects? Videos? Take own photos for high resolution.

Sample trade show poster

I took a screen shot, so don't mind the red underlines. Apparently Pages doesn't know what school we go to. :o)

Rivier Academy Trade Show info

The choir/jazz choir are hosting a trade show at Rivier Academy (in the library) on Saturday, December 3rd. IP 10 class, we will be making posters today that we can print to advertise around the community. The following information must be included:

Rivier Academy Trade Show (title prominently displayed on the poster please)
Saturday, December 3rd, 2011
10:00am-4:00pm
Rivier Academy Library - 1405 Bishop Pascal Place, Prince Albert, SK (please use 15th St. doors)
No gate fee
Rivier choirs will be Christmas carolling from 12:00-1:00pm
All proceeds go towards funding the Rivier Choir & Jazz Choir's trip to Telemiracle 36 in Regina - March 3rd-4th, 2012
Featuring: Local craft, beauty, food, accessory, and clothing vendors, a "bake walk" (mix and match to select the baking of your choice; pay per pound of baking), chili lunch, raffle prizes, and a silent auction

Search Google images for high-resolution (large) photos to use on your poster. Classic Christmas photos may be the best choice, but it is up to your artistic discretion. Before you hand in your posters to the IP 10 drop box, have a classmate or two proofread it first.

Thanks for your help!

Updates

I am back from the Saskatchewan Music Conference in Regina (thankfully I didn't get storm-stayed like some of my colleagues!), and it was just wonderful! I bought $600 worth of band music for $20, which was the deal of the century, to say the least! Gotta love Long & McQuade blowout sales. Get ready for some sight reading, bands! We've got lots of new material!

Just a reminder for everyone that there has been a change in Parent-Teacher Interview times for tomorrow. Instead of 4-7pm, we will be running interviews from 3:30-6:30. Don't forget to tell your parents!

October practice charts were due on Friday. Congratulations to Band 20, who was the first class to have a 100% record of handing in their charts. Next step: Make sure that all charts have a minimum of 240 minutes per month (60 minutes per week). Music 9(4) and 7(1) came very close as well - good work girls!

For those of you wondering about the cast list for The Sound of Music, here's the scoop: Jan Cash, our director, needs to have the final say in the casting. Sr. Mary and I have it mostly figured out now, after several callback auditions. Jan will need to put the final "seal of approval" on our list, and we will get started on rehearsals immediately after. Stay tuned for a schedule.

I hope everyone had a good weekend, and please drive safely out there.... it's beginning to look a lot like (slippery, snowy, icy) Christmas!

In Flanders Fields

I'd like to meet with the chamber choir (Naomi, Brenna, Michelle, Maddi, Amanda, Jordan, Chandra, Rebecca, Quinn) for "In Flanders Fields" today at 12pm. Take some time and eat your lunch, then head up to the music room so we can take a look. We will be singing it a cappella at the Remembrance Day service at school on November 8th.
