A change of pace...

Today's lesson: Brush your teeth or else you may end up on a dentist's Comic Life poster.

Testing comments for 7L

Hi girls! As you are aware, your teachers are now connected to you via homework/announcement blogs. You are able to leave comments on some of them, mine being one. Today we are going to practice doing exactly that.

Please leave me a comment with your favourite (school-appropriate) quotation. It can be inspirational, funny, motivational, reflective, etc. Some topic ideas: friendship, music, faith, family, nature.... you choose!

Testing comments for 7C

Hi 7C! We are going to practice leaving comments on the blog. This will be useful for you if you are at home and you have a question about an assignment, exam, rehearsal, etc.

Leave me a comment with a good, clean joke. This will be fun to read. :o) It can be cheesy if you want.... I mean, I do it all the time to you in class. It might be payback time.

Alice in Wonderland rehearsal info - Tues. Nov. 17th

There will be no formal Alice in Wonderland music rehearsal tonight. Instead, all cast members should take time on their own to review their music and/or dialogue. Aim for getting yourself off-book (i.e. memorizing all of your lines, song lyrics, etc.) as soon as possible. We don't want to be bogged down by scripts and music books once we take our rehearsals to the stage!

Rehearsals have been going well so far. Thank you for all of your hard work! :o)

Choir warmup

Hi Senior Choir! Today's warm-up likely will be running through your head all day (it happened to me when I learned it, too!), so here it is, in case you've forgotten it and it's driving you crazy:

Left, right.... you're wrong, it's.... not right, it's left!
And you'll find it.... left.... right where you left it! ...... ..... That's right!

:o)

Also, please take a look at "Only Time" and start memorizing it. We will perform it for our Christmas concert, which is coming up in less than 5 weeks now! Please put in some practice time for "Jamaican Noel" and "Grown Up Christmas List" as well so that we're not panicking and scrambling to put it all together before the concert.

Sounded great today - please ask me for extra help on your parts if you need it. :o)

Hello from the SK Music Conference!

Hi everyone! Wow, I just spent the greatest weekend in Regina at the SK Music Conference! I got to attend some incredible sessions with some wonderful presenters. The keynote speaker was Peter Boonshaft, who wrote one of the books in my collection, "Teaching Music With Passion." He was just fantastic! I also got to play in the SMC Wind Ensemble, which was a total blast, and gave my chops a great workout! I recorded one of our pieces, "The Redwoods," and will post it on here once I get it uploaded.

I also picked up some really cool ideas for things to try at Rivier. Choir, watch out... I've got some pretty cool warmups for us to try, including some body percussion and other funky things. Level 2 band, I bought you a new piece that I can't wait to read with you this week! (I even bought a piano-patterned nail file for $3 just for fun!)

I've had a great weekend. I have to admit that after all the inspirational speakers I've heard, I have once again been reminded of why I love this job, and I actually really miss you girls and can't wait to get back home and teach you some of the cool things I've learned!

Cheers from Regina!

Level 1 Band

Great rehearsal today girls! Keep practicing your Concert Bb scales, as this scale is the basic foundation of our technical playing. Once we learn Concert Bb we can start learning new notes and more scales! YAY, BAND!

You girls are awesome! :o) (Don't forget to hand in your October practice charts too.)

Alice in Wonderland rehearsal change

Hello to the cast of Alice in Wonderland!

Due to my attendance at a provincial music conference on Friday morning, our Thursday evening rehearsal will be postponed until further notice. Several of you mentioned that you would not be able to switch the rehearsal time to 3:30pm on Thursday, so this was the best alternate option. On the bright side, I will be learning lots of great things at the conference that I can bring home to us at Rivier! :o)

Rehearsal books/chorus songbooks/scripts will be assigned and handed out to you asap.

Comp 7 Concert Posters assignment

October practice charts

Just a reminder that your October practice charts are due by this Friday. Hand them in early to avoid the last-minute panic that happened for some of you last month. Remember that for full marks all you need to do is practice for a minimum of 1 hour per week! The baskets to hand in your charts are located on my filing cabinet in 7C and on the table in the auditorium.

"Taumata" for short

The longest place name in the world!

This will be on your next spelling test. Just kidding!
