Level 1-4 theory requirements

Our report card due date has been pushed back to March 16th due to the Teacher's Convention and the Religious Education Congress in LA. Therefore, for report cards, I need the following done from each band (due Thurs. March 15th):

Level 1 Theory - Up to and including Quiz 4
Level 2 Theory - Up to and including Lesson 11 Assignment 2
Level 3 Theory - Up to and including Quiz 2
Leve 4 Theory - Up to and including Lesson 8 Assignment 1

I will be talking to you during your theory classes to let you know whether I have updated marks or you or not. Some of you finished more than you needed to for the last report card so I have taken those marks and added them for this term.

It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday....

It's exactly one month until Christmas! A few updates coming your way for this Friday:

- As mentioned in class yesterday, today we will be swapping our Level 4 theory class for rehearsal in Period 6. Meet in the auditorium and we'll work through "Coffee Arabian Dances" from "Themes from the Nutcracker" as we haven't looked at it for a while.
- 7(2) theory will meet in the library in Period 4. Girls, bring your instruments so we can work on your trio for the Christmas concert.
- 9(3) will be in the library for theory in Period 5.
- If you don't have all of your practice minutes in for your November chart, you have this weekend to practice for credit. Remember, you need to practice for the equivalent of 60 minutes per week to receive full credit. Practice charts are due by next Friday, Dec. 1st.
- Choir/Jazz Choir - Trade show forms are due today. Please get started on your baking this weekend so that we have enough product to sell at our trade show on the 3rd! Bring in your baking, raffle prizes, chili, etc. early next week and we will be all ready to set up on Friday after school. Thanks for your support and kind attention to our deadlines - it's impossible to organize unless everybody pitches in in a timely fashion! Thanks ladies!
Have a great Friday!

Music updates

Jr. Choir members needing to refresh memory work on "Early One Morning" and "Fare Thee Well, Love" please meet me in the music room at 12:15 today for a brief rehearsal.

Jazz Choir, if you need extra help with choreography before the concert (tomorrow at 7pm) I will be available after school for as long as we need. Remember that we also scheduled an extra rehearsal on Thursday at 11:40 to make sure the choreography is in place, especially for the 30s who missed 1-2 rehearsals due to retreat and other reasons. Also, please remember to track down your costumes for our first number, as we don't want any last-minute scrambles to get things in order.

Band students, practice charts are due by Friday. Online theory is due by June 17th at the very latest, and I have already spoken to some of you about how much is needing to be done. Many of you have completed the program with 100% or in the high 90s. Way to go!

The concert tomorrow is at 7pm, and the order is as follows:

Jazz Choir (be here by 6:30pm)
Level 1 Band (be here by 6:30pm)
Orchestra 10 (be here by 6:45pm)
Orchestra 20 (be here by 6:45pm)
Level 2 Band (be here by 7:00pm)
Jazz Choir (already here)
Orchestra 30 (be here by 7:15pm)
Junior Choir/Senior Choir (be here by 7:15pm)
Level 3 Band (be here by 7:30pm)
Level 4 Band (be here by 7:30pm)

The room assignments for each group are posted on all of the homeroom doors along with a copy of the program. Please be sure that your instruments and music are out of the storage rooms by 6:45pm on Thursday. If this means that you need to remove them on Wednesday or Thursday after school, please do so. You may store them in your classrooms temporarily and then return them after the concert.

The dress for the concert is full uniform (vest, tie, etc.) with BLACK PANTS. Kilts don't go over well when playing on a raised stage. Even if your group is standing, please wear black pants to stay consistent throughout each ensemble.

Thank you for all of your hard work this year! I'm excited for our concert, as we really have some nice rep prepared for our audience (I'm sure the twins will love it! Look for them in the front row!). Our performance year will round out with an afternoon entertaining at the Good Sam's International RV Club "Samboree" at the Exhibition Center on Friday. If you're a grade 10 student who is helping at track, you will be excused for the performance(s). If you're a junior student who is competing at track, you will remain at the track for the day to complete your events.

There are still a few of you who owe me singing/playing tests from earlier this semester. I will be tracking you down to make sure that they happen before final exams (or during that week if necessary). Choral 20 students, we may have to run singing tests over a lunch hour so that we can potentially use our final rehearsal times to sing at Pineview or Mont St. Joe's (although nothing of that sort has been arranged yet).

How to sign in to online theory

Here is, step-by-step, everything you need to know about how to access online theory:

1. Go to www.canadianband.ca/onlinetheory/moodle2/moodle
2. If you are in Level 1 or 2 of the theory program, click on "SASKATCHEWAN/ALBERTA (LEVELS 1&2)." If you are in Level 3 of the program, click on "EASTERN CANADA-WORLD, ALL LEVEL 3."
3. Sign in using the username format lastname.firstname (no spaces, all lower case)
4. If you need to change your password, click on your name in the top right corner of the window, and click "change password," then follow the on-screen instructions.
5. To check your grades or find out where you left off, click your name in the top right corner, click "Activity Reports" and then "Grade," and check the list for the last completed assignment. (Note: If you left off in the middle of an assignment, when you attempt to start it again it will ask you if you want to continue from the last page you saw. If you click yes, you will start where you left off. If you click no, you will begin the assignment again.)
6. Quiz passwords are listed on the whiteboard in the computer lab. If you need these for work at home, please write them down in your agenda.

Leave a comment or talk to me at school if you have any questions!

Quiz 5 resource sheet

By request for those who couldn't access the resource sheet (click to enlarge):

Online theory passwords - Level 1

Even though all online theory is due today, the marks will be printed on Monday (lucky you!). So, if you have some VERY LAST-MINUTE (ahem!) fixes to do, assignments or quizzes to complete, etc. you may do them this weekend. The quiz passwords for Level 1 are as follows (there are no quizzes for Level 2):

Quiz 1 - new3fish
Quiz 2 - fry4day
Quiz 3 - laugh8
Quiz 4 - jogging1
Quiz 5 - swish9

Please don't worry about the comprehensive final exam, as it just popped up this past week and I had told you previously that I would not be including it in the grades because of a lack of adequate class time to complete it.

If you have any other issues (i.e. Can't remember your username, which, by the way, is lastname.firstname with no spaces, or if you forgot your password, etc.) you might just be out of luck as you have known that this due date was approaching for a month now and I am quite sure that it is not humanly possible for me to cater to all 111 band students and their theory needs in the next 24 hours. I will do what I can but I can't promise anything! Congratulations to those of you who have completed your theory and rocked it with 100%! Several of you are in the 90s as well which is just awesome.

Happy last day of classes, everyone!!!!

Sub plans for March 10th, 2010

Hi girls. Since I am away today, Comp 8M - please do another "own choice" edit and submit it to my drop box. I will teach you how to do the new assignment on Friday. 8I, please finish your subtlety assignments and hand them in when you are finished. Remember that any "free time" in computers is to be spent doing additional photo editing assignments! You may be able to use some of these finish products in your portfolios in the near future.

All computer band classes will be working on online theory. A copy of your passwords has been left with the substitute teacher. Also, please be reminded that the new (correct) website for online theory is:

www.canadianband.ca/onlinetheory/moodle2/moodle

We are, of course, in the Alberta/Saskatchewan group, and Level 2 of the program. Remember also that I can check your progress from home while you're here working hard for the sub! :o)

IP 10, continue to work on your iMovie projects. 15 computers successfully received the file transfer from last class, although I am not sure which 15 (helpful, I know). You may have to check various computers for the files on the hard drive - they are in a folder called "Rivier photos for iMovies" - trial and error is the key for finding these pics here. You may also copy them onto a USB if that's helpful for you.

Thanks everyone!

Theory final grades

Hi girls. It was great to see so many of you finish the online theory program this weekend. The difference between the marks from Friday to this morning are like night and day. The final grades have been printed now and there will be no changes for those people who complete any more assignments or exams from this point on. As well, the passwords from the last posting on this blog have been removed.

To be fair to the students who finished the online theory program by the specified due date, anyone who had an extension will be penalized 27 marks, which is the equivalent of 5% of the online theory portion of your music grade (approximately 1.5% on your overall report card).

Have a great summer!

Quiz passwords for Online Theory Registered Version Level 1

Hi girls. Several of you have missed assignments, quizzes, and even your FINAL EXAM on the online theory program. This is your last chance to catch up and avoid seeing your grades drop drastically on your report card. Level 1 of the program was to be completed by Thursday. You have had ample warning. I will reprint the marks on Monday and whatever is there when I print them out will be the mark shown on your report card, no questions asked.

(Passwords have been removed)

If you have a problem with accessing any of the exams, you MUST contact me by Monday morning at 10am.

Online theory/Gr. 11 assignment due date

All online theory is due by next Thursday, June 18th.  All assignments and exams, including the comprehensive final exam, must be completed by that date so that I can submit report card marks.

Grade 11 music assignments (practice journals for band students, essays for choral students) are due by Monday, June 15th.

We're almost at the end!  It's hard to believe how fast this year has flown.

Penitential Choir rehearsal date change (with a cameo appearance by the online theory program)

The date for the next Penitential Choir rehearsal is changed from tomorrow (Tuesday) to Thursday at 12pm due to tomorrow's noon dismissal. See you then!

Also, our online theory program administrator has asked me to inform all of the students who use the program that they should NOT be using the blog feature. He has to spend a lot of time moderating comments and monitoring student usage, so please refrain from using the feature. There is no need to use it for the purposes of our classes anyway. Thanks!
