Computers 8 photo portfolio

Good morning Computers 8!

Today we are going to start compiling our work into an e-portfolio using Windows Movie Maker.  The first step for you today is to make sure all of your photo editing projects are in one place (ie. If some of them are in one folder, some are in another, some are on your USB flash drive, etc., compile them all into one place.  You may want to make a folder called "Editing Portfolio" and put them all in there for easy access.).

We will go through the steps together on the projector screen this morning, and we will be learning some of the features of Windows Movie Maker together.  For the past 8 years we have done this project in iMovie on Mac computers, so this will be different from what I have been used to in the past.  We will discover some new features together I'm sure!

Once you've logged on to your computer and you've read this post, start organizing your photos and wait for the demonstration on the projector screen.

Happy Friday Eve (the best way to think of Thursdays in my opinion)!

IP 10 Music Video Project Outline 2017

IP 10 Music Video Assignment Outline

Welcome to your final project in IP 10! You will be creating a music video in iMovie, complete with audio track, lip syncing, costumes, and special effect. By yourself or in a group of 2-4 people, start brainstorming what song you will be using for your project. You can be as creative as you want – have fun! The video does NOT need to look anything like the official music video.

The first steps are:
  1. Choose your song and ensure that you can download a high-quality audio track of the song (anything downloaded from iTunes should work; recording a voice memo of a song while it plays out of speakers, for example, would not be permitted).
  2. Type out (or Google and cut and paste) the lyrics and save it in a document that you can hand in to Mrs. Lohneis for approval.
  3. Complete the Music Video Planning Guide provided by Mrs. Lohneis. This template should help you get started thinking about which shots you can film to go along with which lyrics, what costumes you can wear, what angles you can film from, etc.
Some considerations as you are planning and filming:
  • Continuity – make sure you wear the same costumes, wear your hair the same, etc. when filming similar scenes on different days
  • Choose at least a few sections where you will be lip syncing along with the lyrics – this will allow me to assess whether your video editing skills are such that you can line up the movement of your mouth with the audio of the song with no delays or discrepancies
  • Are you going to (fake) play instruments or are you a vocal band? Which instruments?
  • Consider using a tripod or at least ensure that you have a very steady videographer when you are
filming – shaky scenes are difficult to watch and look unprofessional
  • Make sure your video “makes sense” – what is the storyline? Is there one, or are you going for more of
a “mood”? Ensure that there is some sort of logical “flow” to the video so the audience is entertained,
    not confused.
  • Brush up on your acting skills! If your song is light and bubbly, your costumes, facial expressions, etc.
should match. For heavy metal, you will look/act differently to fit the genre.

    Criteria for filming specific shots:
  • Minimum number of frames: 25
  • Minimum number of close-up/medium range/zoomed out frames: 5 EACH
  • Minimum number of musical frames: lip synching = 10; instruments = 5
  • Minimum number of unrelated frames (no instruments/singing shown): 5

The marking rubric is as follows:

    Set/Costumes/Props  /10
Videography skills (smoothness, high res, etc.) /10
Meeting criteria for filming (outlined above) /20
    Overall visual interest /15
    Flow/Storyline /10
Editing Skills (vocals lined up, etc.) /15
    Overall Appeal /20
Total /100

Have fun and rock on!

3. An eccentric person (the weirder the better!)

Have fun!

Computers 8 - Blur

Hi Computers 8!

The assignment for today is called "Blur" and the gist of it is this:

1. Select a photo with a focal point.  Any subject will do.
2. Add any effects you would like (optional - filters, selective colouring, etc).
3. Under the "Effects" tab, select "Blur" (you will have to scroll down quite a ways to find it).
4. Make note of how the background looks, and adjust the vertical and/or horizontal blur as necessary to make sure that the background is sufficiently blurry.  DO NOT APPLY THE EFFECT.
5. Using the paintbrush tool, paint the focal point back into clear focus.  Utilize your zoom tool, smaller brush size, reverse effect, etc. to make sure that your lines are clean and precise.
6. When you are finished your effect painting, click "Apply."

Save the assignment as Last name, First initial, Blur.  You can hand it in to the folder next class (folder does not exist yet).

Computers 8 - Seasons Collage

Good morning ladies and gentlemAn (singular)!  It's FRIDAY!

Today's assignment is called "Seasons Collage" and the criteria is as follows:

1. Find four high quality photos of the 4 seasons (winter, spring, summer, autumn).  Make sure they are distinctly from each season, and similar in the following ways:

- Content (i.e. Do they contain people - one or more?  Flowers?  Countryside scenery?  Cityscapes?  Something else?)
- Vantage point (i.e. Are they close-ups?  Are the photos cropped?  How big is the focal point of each photo?)
- Overall style (i.e. Are they edited with colour filters?  Are they vibrant colours or a softer palette? etc.)

2. Select your 4 photos and put them into a collage.  Edit the collage however you wish (NO quotes please - if you want to use text you may put the name of the season in a small, subtle, faded font on each cell of the collage).

Save it with your last name and first initial, "Seasons Collage."  Hand it in to the folder.  Happy editing!

(Below is my example that I created today.  Note that I chose a single flower in each season, and they are all placed in the outside corner of the photograph.)

Creating Yourself

Good morning Computers 8!  Today we will be doing another text editing assignment, similar to the "Some paths"-style assignments you had been doing earlier (think Tumblr quotes style, with overlays, different fonts, sizes, styles, banners, etc.).

The quote to work with is:

"Life isn't about finding yourself.  Life is about creating yourself." - George Bernard Shaw

You are welcome to include quotation marks and the author of the quotation, or you can omit it for artistic effect, depending on how you are designing your project.

Criteria:

1. At least one image overlay (you can use lunapic to remove the background of an image if necessary)
2. At least 2 different fonts
3. At least 2 different font sizes with an obvious focal point on key words (ie. more important words = bigger font, or curved in the way that "some paths" was done, for example)
4. Text centered over your photo, leaving equal margins on top, bottom, left, and right

Make sure you check for all of the above criteria before you save your photo!  Hand it in when completed, with the file name Lastname, First Initial, Creating Yourself.

You can also hand in your last 3 assignments (Faith, Peace, Joy) from Monday as I will create folders in Period 3.

Computers 8 - Faith, Peace, Joy (Monday, April 24th)

Hi Computers 8!  I hope you all had a great Easter break.  I will be back tomorrow, and I maaaaaay have just bought you all a tiny present from Mexico. :)

Today I'd like to you to work on 3 different photo edits - you will have next class to finish these if required.

1. Faith

2. Peace
3. Joy

You can edit photos of your own choice that evoke feelings of FAITH (can be religious faith, spiritual faith, courage faith, or any other kind of faith you decide to focus on), PEACE, and JOY.  The key to success initially is taking time to choose just the right photo.  Take your time and pick a professional-looking, high quality, high resolution photo that evokes emotion in the viewer.

You may choose to add text to your photo, but it is NOT required.  If you do choose to add text, make sure you are thoughtful and artistic in your choices of fonts, sizes, placements, etc.

Below are a few text ideas to get you started on your photo editing.  You may include one of these quotes, or you may just read through them for inspiration and to set the tone before searching for your photo that you will edit without text.

Save your photos with your last name, first initial, and the name of the assignment (Faith, Peace, or Joy - 1 of each).

Computers 8 - Eyes collage (Monday)

Good morning Computers 8!  We are in the home stretch before the Easter break.  Today's assignment is to find a striking close-up photograph of somebody with interesting (and wide open) eyes.  You will make the photo black and white, and then tint the photo a different colour, reverse the effect, and paint back on the iris of the eyes only.  Do this 4 times with 4 different colours, saving your work each time.  Upload all 4 photos to Ribbet and place them into a collage.

Save your work as Lastname, First initial, Eyes collage.

You only need to hand in the final collage, not all 4 individual eyes edits leading up to that point.

Here is one I did as a sample, but I included many more than you are required to do.  It's a bit too much with this many eyes, but once I committed I couldn't stop!  Haha.

Computers 8 Texture edit (Tuesday)

Choose a silhouette photo without too much foreground or background distraction (aim for 1,000 pixels as usual) and upload it to Ribbet.  Using the Texture feature and its various options, edit your photo to your liking.  We will discuss how to save the photo during class today.  Save it as "Last name, Texture" and a description of the photo itself, for example, "Lohneis, Texture Butterfly" or "Lohneis, Texture Umbrella Girl" etc.

**** EDITED TO ADD: To save this project, follow these steps:
1. With your photo on the screen, press the Print Screen button.  This will copy the contents of your screen in the computer's memory.
2. In the start menu, open the "Accessories" folder and select Paint.  Open the application.
3. On your keyboard, use the paste shortcut (Ctrl + V) and your image will appear.
4. Click the "Crop" button and draw a box around the image you want to capture.  Once you have drawn the box around your image, click the crop button again.
5. Save the resulting image as Lastname, first initial, Texture Trees (or whatever the content of your photo is).  Make sure to save it as a .jpg file extension - the default in Paint will be .png

Here are a few examples so you know what your project should look like.
