Computers 8 photo portfolio

Good morning Computers 8!

Today we are going to start compiling our work into an e-portfolio using Windows Movie Maker.  The first step for you today is to make sure all of your photo editing projects are in one place (ie. If some of them are in one folder, some are in another, some are on your USB flash drive, etc., compile them all into one place.  You may want to make a folder called "Editing Portfolio" and put them all in there for easy access.).

We will go through the steps together on the projector screen this morning, and we will be learning some of the features of Windows Movie Maker together.  For the past 8 years we have done this project in iMovie on Mac computers, so this will be different from what I have been used to in the past.  We will discover some new features together I'm sure!

Once you've logged on to your computer and you've read this post, start organizing your photos and wait for the demonstration on the projector screen.

IP 10 Music Video Project Outline 2017


IP 10 Music Video Assignment Outline

Welcome to your final project in IP 10! You will be creating a music video in iMovie, complete with audio track, lip syncing, costumes, and special effect. By yourself or in a group of 2-4 people, start brainstorming what song you will be using for your project. You can be as creative as you want – have fun! The video does NOT need to look anything like the official music video.

The first steps are:
  1. Choose your song and ensure that you can download a high-quality audio track of the song (anything downloaded from iTunes should work; recording a voice memo of a song while it plays out of speakers, for example, would not be permitted).
  2. Type out (or Google and cut and paste) the lyrics and save it in a document that you can hand in to Mrs. Lohneis for approval.
  3. Complete the Music Video Planning Guide provided by Mrs. Lohneis. This template should help you get started thinking about which shots you can film to go along with which lyrics, what costumes you can wear, what angles you can film from, etc.
Some considerations as you are planning and filming:
  • Continuity – make sure you wear the same costumes, wear your hair the same, etc. when filming similar scenes on different days
  • Choose at least a few sections where you will be lip syncing along with the lyrics – this will allow me to assess whether your video editing skills are such that you can line up the movement of your mouth with the audio of the song with no delays or discrepancies
  • Are you going to (fake) play instruments or are you a vocal band? Which instruments?
  • Consider using a tripod or at least ensure that you have a very steady videographer when you are
    filming – shaky scenes are difficult to watch and look unprofessional
  • Make sure your video “makes sense” – what is the storyline? Is there one, or are you going for more of
    a “mood”? Ensure that there is some sort of logical “flow” to the video so the audience is entertained,
    not confused.
  • Brush up on your acting skills! If your song is light and bubbly, your costumes, facial expressions, etc.
    should match. For heavy metal, you will look/act differently to fit the genre.

    Criteria for filming specific shots:
  • Minimum number of frames: 25
  • Minimum number of close-up/medium range/zoomed out frames: 5 EACH
  • Minimum number of musical frames: lip synching = 10; instruments = 5
  • Minimum number of unrelated frames (no instruments/singing shown): 5

    The marking rubric is as follows:

    Set/Costumes/Props  /10
    Videography skills (smoothness, high res, etc.) /10
    Meeting criteria for filming (outlined above) /20
    Overall visual interest /15
    Flow/Storyline /10
    Editing Skills (vocals lined up, etc.) /15
    Overall Appeal /20
Total /100

Computers 8 - Humans of New York edits

Do a Google image search for "Humans of New York" (HONY).  You will do 3 different HONY edits with your own choice of filters, techniques, etc.  NO TEXT on these edits.

1. An older person (lots of wrinkles if possible)
2. A child
3. An eccentric person (the weirder the better!)

Computers 8 - Blur

Hi Computers 8!

The assignment for today is called "Blur" and the gist of it is this:

1. Select a photo with a focal point.  Any subject will do.
2. Add any effects you would like (optional - filters, selective colouring, etc).
3. Under the "Effects" tab, select "Blur" (you will have to scroll down quite a ways to find it).
4. Make note of how the background looks, and adjust the vertical and/or horizontal blur as necessary to make sure that the background is sufficiently blurry.  DO NOT APPLY THE EFFECT.
5. Using the paintbrush tool, paint the focal point back into clear focus.  Utilize your zoom tool, smaller brush size, reverse effect, etc. to make sure that your lines are clean and precise.
6. When you are finished your effect painting, click "Apply."

Save the assignment as Last name, First initial, Blur.  You can hand it in to the folder next class (folder does not exist yet).
