Comp 9I News Broadcast updates

Due to technical glitches with 2 groups last class, I am extending the deadline for your iMovie news broadcasts one class period.  Since I see you only twice per cycle, and given that Wednesday is an inservice day, this actually means that you will have an extra calendar week to finish your projects.  You can breathe! :o)  Our "movie night" will be on Wednesday, May 2nd in Period 2.

It's a beautiful day!  It's 14C outside and seems to be creeping up to the high of 22C for this afternoon.  To my Drama 20 class, I took a trip to the J.M. Cuelenaere Library yesterday afternoon and picked up 13 books of one-act plays for you to browse through.  If the class comes to a consensus and we feel like getting a little sunshine, we can head out to the courtyard and do our reading outside.  :o)

Drama resources for free one-act plays

Drama 20, please take a peek at some of these links to free one-act plays. Note how many cast members are needed, what genders, and the approximate performance time:

Free 1-act plays by D.M. Larson

I am also going to look for several books at the J.M. Cuelenaere Library. I've found 12 in their online catalogue that look promising. We'll see once I pick them up and have a browse through them.

This is what I think of all of you lovely people

Infinity Quote ideas for Yearbook (IP 20/30)

By confronting us with irreducible mysteries that stretch our daily vision to include infinity, nature opens an inviting and guiding path toward a spiritual life. - Thomas More

A single idea, if it is right, saves us the labor of an infinity of experiences. - Jacques Maritain

God is the tangential point between zero and infinity. - Alfred Jarry

Humanity is made up of an infinity of different individuals. Each of us travels for motives exclusively his own. - Ella Maillart

The meaning of life is contained in every single expression of life. It is present in the infinity of forms and phenomena that exist in all of creation. - Michael Jackson

The poetic notion of infinity is far greater than that which is sponsored by any creed. - Joseph Brodsky

This is the truth: as from a fire aflame thousands of sparks come forth, even so from the Creator an infinity of beings have life and to him return again. - Marcus Tullius Cicero

To see the world in a grain of sand, and to see heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hands, and eternity in an hour. - William Blake

You and I are essentially infinite choice-makers. In every moment of our existence, we are in that field of all possibilities where we have access to an infinity of choices. - Deepak Chopra

“If a thing loves, it is infinite.” – William Blake

The only way to comprehend what mathematicians mean by Infinity is to contemplate the extent of human stupidity.” - Voltaire

Falsehood has an infinity of combinations, but truth has only one mode of being.” – Jean Jacques Rousseau

“To infinity and beyond” – Buzz Lightyear

Love is like a mirror. When you love another you become his mirror and he becomes yours...And reflecting each other's love you see infinity.

“Music fills the infinite between two souls.” – Rabindranath Tagore

Man is equally incapable of seeing the nothingness from which he emerges and the infinity in which he is engulfed.” – Blaise Pascal

The last function of reason is to recognize that there are an infinity of things which surpass it.” – Blaise Pascal

The divine attributes are first developed in ourselves, and thence transferred to our Creator. The idea of God, sublime and awful as it is, is the idea of our own spiritual nature, purified and enlarged to infinity. In ourselves are the elements of the Divinity.” – William Ellery Channing

It [the soul] is truly an image of the infinity of God, and no words can do justice to its grandeur.” – William Ellery Channing

"And in that moment, I swear we were infinite."

Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower)

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe." — Albert Einstein

"The Universe is very, very big.

It also loves a paradox. For example, it has some extremely strict rules.

Rule number one: Nothing lasts forever.

Not you or your family or your house or your planet or the sun. It is an absolute rule. Therefore when someone says that their love will never die, it means that their love is not real, for everything that is real dies.

Rule number two: Everything lasts forever."

Craig Ferguson (Between the Bridge and the River)

"An infinity of passion can be contained in one minute, like a crowd in a small space."

Gustave Flaubert (Madame Bovary)

"When tea becomes ritual, it takes its place at the heart of our ability to see greatness in small things. Where is beauty to be found? In great things that, like everything else, are doomed to die, or in small things that aspire to nothing, yet know how to set a jewel of infinity in a single moment? "

Muriel Barbery (The Elegance of the Hedgehog)

"Only in the eyes of love can you find infinity."

Sorin Cerin (Wisdom Collection)

Gr 11 Europe Trip Hello

Updates for all classes - April 17th

All Bands - Practice charts for April will be due by Friday, May 4th. You have 2 weeks to finish your practice minutes for full marks. Remember, 1 hour per week (60 minutes) is all you need to get full marks of 240 minutes for the month! We are also planning to create a mass band to play O Canada at the final concert, including all students from Levels 1 through 4. There will be about 100 students on stage for this performance! :o)

Senior Choir - We are starting to pick music for our final concert on June 6th. So far, it looks like Senior Choir will be performing Prayer of the Children, Shine on Me (?), Three Russian Folk Songs, and our newest addition - the New Zealand Maori love song Pokarekare Ana. Up in the air: Amazing Grace and Hotaru Koi. We handed in Say it With a Song, since we haven't looked at it yet and we have more than enough rep. We will team up with Jazz Choir to sing Seasons of Love from RENT.

Jazz Choir - Rep for final concert: Seasons of Love (with Senior Choir), Pop Bottle Hoedown, If I Were a Rich Man, and Can You Feel the Love Tonight? from The Lion King. We can make some decisions down the road if need be (for program length).

Drama 20 - We just finished our Open Scenes 1-6 today. If you missed today's class, you will need to catch up on Scenes 5 and 6 only. Coming down the pipes for the next project = Small cast 1-act plays. We will do some online research to choose our scripts, divvy up characters, etc. As I would like you to get experience working with a variety of actors, we may just draw names from a hat to choose groups. Stay tuned.

Computers 8 - Picnik is closing on Thursday. Please be sure that all of your assignments are done in time!

Computers 9I - News broadcasts are due on April 23rd. Don't leave it until the last minute please, because if you have any issues with importing your videos, editing your footage, etc. you will need time to iron the problems out/re-film if necessary. We will have a "movie night" when all assignments are handed in and compiled into an iDVD project (I will do this part).

IP 10 - We are in the advanced planning stages for our Music Video project. Your band poster is due tomorrow (Wednesday) at the end of the period. Once you have finished filling in your planning guide (band name/genre, props, costumes, camera angles, scene breakdown, etc.) please hand them in to me so I can see how your planning is progressing.

IP 20/30 - We will be finishing iDVD shortly and submitting our video competition entries. New project coming up TBA. We also need you to consistently be tracking down yearbook photos, especially class candids from all grades, 7-12.

Computers 8 Homework - URGENT

As you are already aware, Picnik is closing on April 19th (Thursday). Therefore, all Grade 8 photo editing assignments MUST be completed prior to the site's closure. Refer to the link posted under "Useful Links" (scroll down and look to the left) to remind yourself of which assignments you need to complete.

Thanks ladies! And thanks for your hard work this term on creating your best photo edits. Your iMovie portfolios will be looking great in no time!
