Hey Miss Campbell, I have a question about the science review. I don't know how to explain the question, "Starting with sedimentary rocks, explain how the rock cycle works." I know that the order goes sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic and repeat, but i don't know how to explain how that all happens.
Ok. It should be written in between the arrows between each rock, but in case you don't have that in your notes, here's how it works:
1. Sedimentary rocks are formed from the collection and settlement of bits of sand, small rock, shells, animal matter, etc. that gets compressed and hardened into rock over time. 2. To get from sedimentary to igneous, think of the converging boundary with oceanic and continental crust. When those two collide, the oceanic crust is thinner so part of it gets pushed underneath the continental plate, causing the (sedimentary) rock to melt and then rise to the surface as lava, which hardens into igneous rock. 3. To get from igneous to metamorphic, the extreme heat and pressure from the earth's interior causes the igneous rock to change shape and appearance. 4. To get from metamorphic back to sedimentary, erosion causes metamorphic rocks to break up into small bits that then settle back down onto other rock, with other bits of sand, shells, animal matter, etc. to form sedimentary rocks again.

Lather, rinse, repeat. :o)
Thanks Miss Campbell!
