Post-IMC updates

Well, ladies and gents, it was a success! After a 9-hour journey through torrential rain (yes, the entire way!), we made it safely to IMC, and thankfully had a week full of glorious weather save for one rainy afternoon mid-week. What an awesome experience! Our snazzy bass player was part of the symphony orchestra, while our little miss violinist was a part of the concert orchestra as well as the fiddle school where she got to learn lots of cool tunes by ear. And of course, staying true to its name, the INTERNATIONAL Music Camp had students this week from Austria, Norway, Sweden, Luxembourg, Haiti, Domenica, and Honduras. Awesome!

I hope everyone's enjoying their summer! See you in almost another month yet! Yay for holidays! :o)

Calling all musicians

Hi girls! If any of you would like to join the Senior Choir in a mass choir for the 11:00am mass on Sunday, May 29th at Sacred Heart, please sign up on my door this week. All singers and instrumentalists are welcome.

If you are interested in applying for a scholarship for International Music Camp, please pick up an application form from me and have it back to me by this Friday. For more information on the camp, its programs, location, dates, etc. check out www.internationalmusiccamp.com.

Finally, if you would like to perform at the Good Sam's International RV event on Friday, June 10th at the Exhibition Centre, please sign up on my door. All acts are welcome - dancers, singers, instrumentalists, etc. Think of this as a Variety Night type event when deciding what you could perform.

For example, if you and a friend can do something this super cool (or even a fraction of its coolness), then you're in!:

IMC updates

Hey everyone! Here's an update from International Music Camp - I hope you are all enjoying your holidays so far! Quinn, Katie, Brenna and I are in North Dakota and loving it. The two older girls are playing in a band with students from Canada, the US, Ireland, Norway, Austria, Singapore, Barbados, and Grenada. The quality of instruction here is unparalleled, and it's absolutely amazing to hear all of the talent here. I will try to get a recording.

Today is Canada Day (happy b-day, Canada!) and we are all decked out in our red, white, and maple leaves. I bought the girls matching shirts for $6 each at Superstore in Yorkton while we were filling up with gas en route, so we're all matching now and representing Rivier (and Canada) in style. :oD

Happy summer!

O Canada!

Just for fun this Saturday afternoon:

4 of my dearest International Music Camp friends and coworkers and me singing a barbershop arrangement of "O Canada" before performing at the dedication of the Alme International Arts Centre (the newest and definitely one of the most beautiful buildings on the IMC campus!) - IMC summer 2008.  This video was recorded in Howard Hall, an older building on campus that is used for various rehearsals during camp weeks.  Enjoy!

International Music Camp

As some of you know, I spend my summers at the International Music Camp on the border of Manitoba and North Dakota.  It's a summer school of fine arts, and includes programs such as band, choir, orchestra, creative writing, digital photography, drama, dance, visual art, jazz (vocal and instrumental), piano, handbells, musical theatre, garage band, and many others.

If you think you might be interested in attending for a week or two during the summer, check it out at www.internationalmusiccamp.com.

What I am asking from you is to provide me with a list of your favourite "wake up" songs (high energy, fast tempo, fun and appropriate lyrics, etc.) for me to blast through my dorm to wake my campers up in the morning.  Have fun and be creative!  Leave me a comment with the title(s) and artist(s) and I will get to work on making some super fabulous play lists. :o)
