Comp 8 Letters - Fiddler on the Roof

Hi girls. The assignment today is to complete your cover letters for your dream job (from last class). Remember that they can be entirely fictional, humorous, serious, whatever you choose, but they must be well-written with no spelling or grammar errors.

When you have completed the first letter assignment and have handed it in to the drop box with your name on it, you may start on the next assignment: a letter of thanks to the cast and crew of "Fiddler on the Roof."

This assignment will be completed in Microsoft Word. Check this link for a template that can be used for a letter of thanks.

The addresses required for your letter are written on the whiteboard in the computer lab.

The body of your letter should include (but is not limited to) the following:

1. A statement of thanks

2. An introduction of yourself (your name, grade, school, etc.)

3. Your review of the show (Which characters were your favourite? Why? Which scenes were the most memorable for you? Describe why you enjoyed the parts you did. Were the costumes appealing? Did the actors/actresses speak with clear voices? Were the characters believable? etc.)

4. What you learned by attending this performance (i.e. Did you learn something about the time period or culture portrayed in the musical? Did the performance inspire you to pursue acting, singing, more regular live theatre attendance, etc? Did the storyline cause you to think about an issue that you hadn't previously considered?)

5. A conclusion in which another statement of thanks is included

6. An appropriate closing (i.e. Sincerely) and your name


For formatting, please observe the following:

1. Font = Times New Roman, size 12

2. Standard margins

3. 1.5 line spacing

4. Full justified text (interior address, body, closing)

5. Right justified text (your name, school address, and date) - DO NOT use tabs to move your cursor to the right hand side of the screen, as this looks sloppy and makes formatting difficult.

6. Leave ample space between your closing and your typed name so that you can sign your letter once it has been printed.


Please note that these letters will be printed and shared with the cast, crew, and staff members at St. Mary High School. Have a friend proofread your letters before you hand them in.
