Drama 20 monologue checklist

Drama 20 Monologue Checklist (mid-process)

1. Is my monologue memorized?

2. If not, what part(s) give me the most trouble?

3. What’s my next step in memorizing the text?

4. Do I know who my character is (age, name, background, temperament, etc.)?

5. Have I researched the play from which my monologue comes?

6. What is it called? Who wrote it? When?

7. In the text of my monologue, what is the most powerful word, phrase, or sentence (i.e. What is the highest climactic point of my monologue)?

8. What points in the monologue lend themselves to pauses (for reflection, added emphasis, anger, awe, etc.)? Write the lines and indicate where pauses and/or gestures could go.

9. What predominant emotion does your character experience throughout the monologue? Does the mood change at any point, even slightly? What other emotions can you convey through your performance of the text?

To be or not to be, that is the question....

Drama 20 - We will be continuing the search for monologues today. The website we have been using as a starting point is called www.monologuearchive.com (linked on the left column of my blog under "Useful Links" as well). Feel free to search elsewhere but remember to stay within the realm of your age group, gender, etc. as much as possible, and of course, keep it school appropriate.

Your monologue may be comedic, dramatic, etc. Try to stretch yourself - you might just learn something!
