Level 1 Band - Working on My Dreydl (#39) and Banana Boat Song (#91). Working on O Canada as an extra challenge (#167).
Level 2 Band - Working on Paso Flamenco, mostly m. 34-Coda. Nighthawk is coming along nicely. Keep practicing these two pieces for Music Festival!
Level 3 Band - Working on Paso Flamenco, mostly m. 34-Coda as well. We haven't rehearsed Nighthawk for a while but will revisit it shortly. African Festival has been the focus of the last couple rehearsals. We worked out the "key change" (done with accidentals rather than a new key signature) and took that section right to the end of the piece fairly successfully. Keep working on your parts for all 3 of these songs - Paso Flamenco and Nighthawk will be for Festival.
Level 4 Band - GREAT last rehearsal playing the first 3 movements of Peer Gynt Suite, especially Mvt. II - The Death of Ase. The last movement (In the Hall of the Mountain King) will receive a bit more attention as we need to work out the continual accelerandos. We started working through the second movement of Three Ayres from Gloucester (Ayre for Eventide) by playing the melody by ear and then putting it into the context of the whole movement. We will continue to work on Three Ayres and Country Gardens as we prepare for Festival.
Senior Choir - Prayer of the Children is coming along nicely, with the majority of the work needing to be done in the middle section without lyrics - it is generally good but not super comfortable yet. The main area of focus needs to be Ev'ry Time I Feel the Spirit. We started last rehearsal by working it out from the end and then backing up one measure every time. On Friday we will be running sectionals and then hopefully a full rehearsal in our double Choral periods.
Jazz Choir - Moon River and Ain't Misbehavin' for Music Festival. We are running out of rehearsal time VERY quickly and we need to get ready for Festival in a hurry. Please arrange to eat in Period 3 or 4 as we need every minute of lunch rehearsal time. I will be e-mailing recordings of your parts when I can (asap).
Chamber Choir - Nobody Knows De Trouble I've Seen is sounding lovely. We are working on memorization and observing the dynamic markings in the score. Cantate Domino is coming along, with the majority of the work needing to happen in Section 5, 6, and 7.
Ave Maria (Grade 12) Quintet - Practicing tomorrow morning (Thursday) at 8am. Working on the last half of the piece.
Sikuyo Quintet - We need to find a time to get together before the break if possible. The piece is fairly repetitive but we need to get a start on it so we're not scrambling when we get back. If we can locate a shaker we will add auxiliary percussion accompaniment - I have claves that we use for band and we can borrow them for this piece.
Career Ed 8L - We have completed up to Class 5 on the course outline/plans. All assignments should be handed in to me.
Career Ed 8M - We have completed up to Class 4 on the course outline/plans. All assignments should be handed in to me.
IP 10 - We just finished our blogging unit and began exploring Shutterfly. If you haven't completed your dream travel destination post and/or your "Someone I Admire" post, you will now need to do it on your own time. Bring your digital photos for next class so we can start making a Shutterfly photo book for our next creative media project.
Drama 10 - We are in our last class period today for independent preparation for the Storytelling performance. Two students are prepared to present their "draft performance" today and then the rest of the period will be for continuing to memorize and characterize your performance. We will have no more class time for practicing after the break, so "draft performances" will start again immediately when we get back. Please be prepared as you may be first on the list of performers!
