Next Computers 8 assignment: Interesting Object (do 2)

Similar to "Interesting Portrait," your next assignment(s) is called "Interesting Object" - find an interesting photo of a single object that is the focal point of the photo.  Multiple objects may only be used after approval of your photo by me (Mrs. Lohneis).  Edit the photo with any appropriate effects that you have at your disposal.  You choose which effects to use - make sure you keep the interesting object as the focal point of the composition.

Here are a couple examples of photos I found that you may use for inspiration in your own searches.

Happy editing!

Computers 8 Subtlety assignment

The next assignment (after "Interesting Portrait" and "Foreign Scenery" - or "Foreign Culture") is called "Subtlety" (please spell it correctly!).  To achieve this effect, please follow these steps:

1. Choose your photo from Google Image Search, ensuring that it is high-quality, high-resolution, and has interesting content.
2. Upload that photo and edit it in any way you choose.
3. Select a minimum of 4 words that fit the theme or mood of your selected photograph.  Type them in separate text boxes and move them around wherever you'd like to achieve the best effect.
4. Make them relatively small and then fade them out until they are just legible and not incredibly invasive or obvious.
5. Save, and hand in to the folder as "Last name, Subtlety"

Happy editing!

Computers 8 - next assignment after "Nature no text" = "Interesting Portrait"

Hi Computers 8 (L and M)!

Our next assignment is called "Interesting portrait" and I want you to really spend your time looking for the right photograph to edit.  Look for a high quality portrait online of someone who looks intriguing or interesting.  Maybe it's an elderly person with lots of laugh lines around their eyes, maybe it's a person of a different ethnicity who has particularly striking features, piercing eyes, etc.  Maybe it's someone with an expression on their face that looks like it tells a story.  Take your time selecting just the right portrait!

Use any of the techniques you've learned in Computers class (or any others that you feel enhance the subject matter) to complete your edit.  Save it with your last name first, as always, call it "Interesting portrait" and hand it in to the folder with your class name on it (8L's folder is still called 8C from before I got married!).

Happy editing!

To Brent

Yesterday morning my cousin Brent passed away.  He was more like a brother to me than a cousin, and we were always close growing up despite an 8 1/2 year age difference.  I am gathering strength from my students today.  This will be a difficult week and I appreciate your support.

Nature Quote

Assignment 6: NATURE QUOTE

Choose one of the following quotations:

"In summer, the song sings itself."
- William Carlos Williams

"My profession is to always find God in nature."
- Henry David Thoreau

"All seasons are beautiful for the person who carries happiness w
ithin."
- Horace Friess

"Sounds of the wind or sounds of the sea

Make me happy just to be."
- June Polis

"Each moment of the year has its own beauty . . . a picture which
was never before and shall never be seen again."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"If one daffodil is worth a thousand pleasures, then one is too few."
- William Wordsworth

"The earth laughs in flowers."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"The ocean . . . cold and wild the surf, rushing in to ove
rwhelm the beach, the wind, stinging my cheeks, enveloping me in total freedom."
- Scott Holman

Choose a nature photo from Google Image Search that will complement the quotation you have chosen. Please be sure that the resolution of the photo you choose is high enough that you will be able to edit it with accuracy and that it won't be too "crowded" once you add your effects to it. You can choose the effects you add to the photo. Remember that sometimes less is more. Some suggestions:

- selective colouring (turn the photo to black and white or sepia and paint back on some original colour)
- selective boosting (turn down the saturation of the photo, boost the picture, click "reverse effect" and then paint back on some boosted colour)

- text emphasis (pick out an important word or phrase in your quotation and change its font, colour, and/or size)
- soften

- colour filters
- any other effect(s) that you deem appropriate

When you are finished, save your file as "Lastname, nature quote" and hand it in to the Computers 8M or 8C folder (depending on what class you're in of course). Happy editing, you creative beings, you!
