Texture Collage Assignment:
Using the texture feature that we learned the other day, choose an interesting silhouette photo and edit it in 4 contrasting (but complementary) ways. Then compile the 4 into a collage, arranging them in a way that is the most pleasing to the eye (balancing out colours, weight of lines, busy-ness of patterns, etc.).
The end result should look something like this:
When you have completed your collage, save it as "Texture Collage" (with your last name first, as always!). Happy editing!
"Do not ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." - Howard Thurman

Updates for everyone!
Level 1 Band - We started playing tests today ("What Makes You Beautiful" once through entirely, including 2 verses, B section, chorus). We will be missing Thursday morning's class due to our trip to see Footloose, but playing tests will continue next class.
Level 2 Band - We will begin playing tests tomorrow. "What Makes You Beautiful" once through the form.
Level 3 Band - Playing tests begin tomorrow. "Phantom of the Opera" and "The Muppet Show Theme" (measure numbers specific to each instrument were given in class).
Level 4 Band - We are rehearsing "Simple Gifts" and "Highlights from Harry Potter" for our final concert. We will also be doing "Bucket Beats" (Mvt. I and II) for Variety Night on the 29th.
Senior Choir - We resumed "Wayfaring Stranger" today (Ed Sheeran arrangement with slight changes to the solo). We also worked on "Around the World with Disney," specifically the harmony sections of "Honour To Us All" as well as the staccato note on the word "match." Big improvement today!
Jazz Choir - Singing tests continue tomorrow. "Blue Skies" and "Cry Me a River" once through the form.
Drama 10 - We have been doing some new improvisation activities lately, such as "Standing Sitting Laying Down" and "Genres" - we even did a hybrid activity where we combined both of these concepts for one crazy improv challenge! Today we started "Mad Scripts" which uses the concept of the "Mad Lib" (choose a noun, a first name, a chore you hate to do, etc.) and incorporates the groups' answers into a pre-set script that will be performed in front of the class. We will continue this activity next class (tomorrow).
IP 10IC/10T - We have been continuing our work on the Shutterfly photo books. If you find you have trouble using photos in your book, check to be sure that they are valid .JPG images. Some of you have accidentally uploaded .PNG images (screen shots) or .GIF images, which aren't supported by Shutterfly. If you discover that your photos are of poor-quality low resolution, try uploading them to www.ribbet.com and resizing them to approximately 3,000 pixels. Re-save them and upload them to Shutterfly again. This usually fixes the problem (although it's better to use a high quality original than to resize a small photo!).
Computers 8M/8L - Most recent photo edits: "Determination," "Reflection," "Faith," and "Peace"
Variety Night - Auditions will take place Thursday at noon, Thursday after school, and Friday at noon. Acts not auditioned will not be considered for the show. Variety Night itself will be held on Wednesday, May 29th at 7:00pm in the Auditorium.
Chamber Choir - This week's Wednesday 8am rehearsal will be for preparing for Saskatchewan Honour Choir auditions. Auditions are due by May 15th (next Wednesday - a week from tomorrow!). Any auditioning student who has not received a form should pick one up from me asap, fill it out, and mail it in independently of the audition. We will record auditions at a time that works for each student. Chandra and I recorded a mock audition yesterday and it takes just over 2 minutes for each take. Each audition will need to be submitted in one take, although we can record that take as many times as needed. Please bring your copy of "Art Thou Troubled" (can be downloaded by clicking here).

Welcome Miss Brost!
Today we welcomed a student-teacher from the University of Saskatchewan, Miss Krista Brost. She is going to be with us at Rivier for the next 3 weeks and will be working alongside me in Band, Choir, Jazz Choir, Drama, and the Computers/IP classes. She is a 3rd year vocal major at U of S. Today was her birthday and I'm pretty sure she was serenaded about 4+ times throughout the day.
Welcome, Miss Brost!
