IP 10 Resume Examples

Resume Example #1: Three Column Format

To create a resume with this format in Word Mac 2011:

1. Full name (first and last - middle is optional) and address go at the top as shown above.
2. Phone number and e-mail address should line up on the right side.  Line them up using TABS (not spaces!!!!).  Please note that your phone number should be tabbed over on the same line as your city.  Your e-mail address should be tabbed over on the same line as your postal code.
3. If you wish to use the line dividers, insert a line using the "shapes" option (you'll see it near the right side of your home toolbar).  You may edit it for length, height, shadow, weight, etc. by right-clicking and selecting "Format AutoShape" and changing the pre-set options.  You may also edit your line using the "Layout" menu on your main toolbar.
4. Be sure to keep your headings consistent (ie. If your EDUCATION heading is bold and all-caps, so too should your Work Experience, Volunteer Experience, etc. categories).
5. Dates should be left justified.
6. Tab approximately 2 tabs over and type your middle column content (name of school, place of employment, etc.).
7. Tab 1-2 tabs again and type your city and province abbreviation.
8. Extra relevant information can be included underneath the centre column, but should not be bold or otherwise emphasized.
9. Continue with the same formatting for each section of your resume.  Conclude with 3-4 references, including their professional title and contact information.

Resume Example #2 - Invisible Table Format

To create a resume with this format in Word Mac 2011:

1. Create your header as seen above.
2. Insert your divider line as explained in Resume Format #1: Three Column Format.
3. Insert a table with 2 columns and 10 rows.
4. Drag the centre line in your new table over to the left with enough room to fit the "Work Experience" heading (other long titles can wrap to 2 lines).
5. Type your headings in the left-hand column.  Be sure that they are consistent in appearance (ie. All bold or none bold, same font and size, all caps, small caps, regular caps, etc. - as long as they are all the same!)
6. Using the format shown above (dates, name of school/employer etc., city, province), input the content of each section of your resume into the right-hand column.
7. If you need bullets, you can insert and customize them using "Format" "Bullets and Numbering."  You can change the indent here if need be.
8. When everything is complete, you may highlight your entire table, then select "Format" "Borders and Shading" and select "None" for border.  This will get rid of the lines of your table, leaving you with a nice neat resume!

Notes for all resumes:

- Most recent dates go at the top and then descend chronologically to the least recent
- Use professional, non-colloquial (casual conversational) language
- Highlight your strengths, omit your weaknesses

Music (and other) updates

Level 1 Band set goals that they would like to achieve by June 2013.  We are working on completing 2 new songs from our Essential Elements method books per class, and more if possible.  It will all depend on how much focused practice we can do in and outside of class time.  Let's go girls! :o)

Level 2 Band is just getting back into the swing of things after our Christmas holiday.  We do not have new sheet music yet but are working out of the method books to get our chops up.

Level 3 Band has received several new pieces for sight reading in the last couple classes.  We have sight read "Phantom of the Opera," "Spongebob SquarePants," and "Beauty and the Beast" (we got through the entire song on the first try!).  We still have "Be Our Guest" and "The Muppet Show Theme" to sight read in the next few rehearsals.  If you haven't yet noticed the theme, I am thinking of holding a "pops" concert in June - each ensemble will play/sing popular music instead of classical - should be fun!

Level 4 Band is working on the first 2 movements of "Bucket Beats" (a percussion ensemble like STOMP! using garbage cans and snare sticks), and we are registering for the Music Festival this weekend.  The festival takes place in March.

Senior Choir has selected their 2 songs for Music Festival.  Our first piece will be "A Red Red Rose" and the contrasting selection is the gospel song "The Storm is Passing Over."  These pieces will be performed during the vocal portion of the Music Festival, which will take place at the end of February (24th-26th).

Jazz Choir has also selected their 2 songs for Festival - "Cry Me a River" (ballad) and "Blue Skies" (up-tempo).  We may delve into the world of scat solos shortly for those 6 or 7 brave individuals who expressed an interest at our last rehearsal!  Fun fun!

In non-music news, the Computers 9 and Computers 7 classes are coming to an end shortly as we approach midterm and final exam week.  Comp 9 is finishing 3 Seashore photo editing projects (4 smiling faces, the "best of the worst", and one own choice selection), while the Comp 7 class is challenging themselves to increase their typing speed and accuracy on www.typingtest.com.

Where the Lilies Bloom (our drama production) has really started to take off after New Year's.  It is a heavily dialogue-driven play, meaning that the lead characters have heaps of lines to memorize.  Your hard work is not going unnoticed by your directors - things are starting to come together.  There is still a lot of work to be done, but we are confident that the show will be ready by our opening performance (less than 4 weeks away!!!!).  Schedules are posted on the drama bulletin board outside of 7C.  Technical crew will begin training shortly (sound techs begin on Thurs. 17th and lighting begins on Mon. 28th; hair and make-up will be later).  Stay tuned for announcements.

Happy Wednesday!

IP 10 music video outline

For these assignments you may work by yourself, or in groups of up to 4 (maximum).

Assignment #1: Band poster

If you are working in groups, please note that each person must submit a band poster assignment! Using Microsoft  or Pages, create a poster advertising your band's new up and coming concert. Once you have decided what genre your band will specialize in and what song you will be “performing” for the assignment, you can begin creating your promotional poster. Be sure to include the following:

1. A picture of your band
2. Your band's name (should be prominently featured on the poster)
3. A tagline to advertise your band (i.e. "A full body musical experience!", "Be prepared to ROCK!", etc. - you have my permission to be as gimmicky as you want with it)
4. The venue in which you will be performing
5. The time, date, address, etc. of the performance
6. Ticket information (price, where to buy tickets, etc.)

Assignment #2: Music video

1. Bring your camera to class, or arrange for someone in your group to bring theirs.
2. Choose a song for which you will create your own music video. Google the lyrics and have them approved by Miss Campbell for school appropriateness.
3. Check out the music video on YouTube for inspiration. If it includes questionable content, use your good judgment and turn it off. You may use these music videos as inspiration, or you may choose to do your own thing entirely.
4. Sit down with your group (or on your own, if you are a "solo artist") to plan your music video. Where will you film it? What do you want in the background? Will you wear costumes? Are you going to use actual instruments or are you going to make your own? What instruments will you play?
5. Get filming! Have fun and be creative!
6. When you have your video footage, you will begin to compile it in iMovie. See below for guidelines.

Music video iMovie guidelines:

Your presentation must include the following components:

1. A good quality recording of your song (be sure that it doesn't cut out early or have any sound interferences in it)
2. A 3-line title including: 1. The name of your song; 2. The name of your band; and 3. The “copyright” year (the year you’re filming and producing the video) in the bottom left corner of the first video clip.
3. Video filmed from at least 5 different angles and/or physical locations
4. Video filmed with at least 3 different zoom perspectives (i.e. Do not film your entire music video from one angle with your camera on a tripod, no visual interest or movement, etc.)
5. Steady, easy-to-watch videography (no Blair Witch project camera work, please!)
6. Other criteria that I may add as I see fit.

HAVE FUN! This is going to be a blast.
